This week, my family and I took a trip abroad! (okay, yes I realize I’m finally getting around to writing this in April! (and now posting during a pandemic) What can I say? A girl gets busy!) Our first stop to Venice, Italy was actually in London! We planned an extended 9-hour layover here to explore before our next flight. This time allowed us the opportunity to roam London before jumping on the next flight.
I am the worst at sleeping on planes, and this trip was no different. The first thing I did when we landed, was grab a cup of coffee from Truman’s Brick Lane Brews in the London airport. After fueling up with a much needed caffeine infusion, we arranged to have a driver take us to Windsor Castle. The castle is known as the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. If we had planned the trip a week later, we would have arrived just in time for Princess Eugenie’s wedding at the castle! This is the same location that the Duchess of Sussex (aka Meghan Markle) was married at (scratch the fact that they just gave up their titles). Of course, it was a typical UK day- cold and wet, even in September! The weather didn’t stop us from exploring the beautiful grounds, including the State Apartments and St. George’s Chapel. We were starting to feel tired and hungry, so we popped into Drury House, a tea room that was just a 2 minute walk from the Castle. At this point, we decided to head back to the airport and prepare for our next flight.
Next stop: Venice, Italy!
