In honor of Deacon’s third birthday, I thought I’d put up a puppy post! Deacon has brought us so much joy over the last three years, it’s hard to imagine life before him! We actually found Deacon’s picture when he was 2 weeks old- on Craigslist of all places! At the time, Tristan had just begun his first year of law school and I was working at a pediatric dental office. Although we didn’t *need* a puppy, I somehow convinced him to go to Thomasville, NC to just *see* the puppy. Nothing more. Within a minute of the breeder putting the pup in my arms I WAS IN LOVE. Game over. Tristan knew right then and there we were putting a deposit down for this dog. And that’s exactly what we did. 6 weeks later, we came back to pick up our best friend (during the first week of final exams- yikes!). Since we were living in Winston-Salem at the time, we were heavily considering “Winston” as a name. In the end, we went with “Deacon” and it has been the perfect fit! Deacon made several trips to the law school over the last three years. He just checked in to make sure the study group was taking breaks to relax and recharge!
Doodles are weird. They are goofy, full of personality, and a little too human-like. Over the years, we’ve watched how silly our dog can be and I couldn’t imagine life without him. Below, I’ve included a few items we bought when we first decided we were getting a puppy. We lucked out and never really had problems with him chewing on furniture. The only victims were a few Ikea pillow cases that lost zippers, but other than that he was an easy puppy! He slept well through the night and preferred going to the bathroom outside rather than on puppy pads. When we first picked him up, I was worried he would miss his siblings. The best purchase we made, was a snuggle puppy. It has a heart beat you can turn on and you can put in a heating pack in to resemble the warmth of another puppy (I know, how creative). He LOVES that toy. I can put that in present tense because we still have this toy! Yes, it’s a little beat up and a little less fluffy, but three years later and he still sleeps with it every night.
Happy third birthday to the craziest doodle!
