Tristan and I were picked up bright (dark) and early (5:10 am) for our morning flight to Naples! By 11 am, we touched down in Italy! We made our way towards our new destination: Sorrento, known for its abundance of lemons next to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
We were picked up and driven an hour from the airport to the next hotel – La Tonnarella Sorrento. We arrived slightly earlier than our check-in time, so we lounged on their terrace with one of the most spectacular views we’ve come across so far!
Our hotel even upgraded our room, so we had an amazing private terrace and wonderful view of Mount Vesuvius and the main portion of Sorrento.
We took advantage of our free afternoon and explored the new area. The streets were bustling with people, so to avoid the crowds (and the heat), we popped in a pizzeria called Ristorante Pizzeria Sant’Antonino. Since we were in southern Italy, you know I ordered a Limoncello spritz (seriously, the only drink I ordered).
We continued to wander the streets and even spotted a few lemon trees hidden among the buildings. The locals continue to cultivate lemons as part of their culture, as well as, make Sorrento’s most famous export – limoncello liqueur (and oversell to tourists like me).
For dinner, we went down to Marina Grande and ate at Taverna Azzurra. The manager here looked like an Italian Johnny Depp and of course I had Tristan take a sneaky photo of him for proof.
We ended the night with, you guessed it, gelato.
