We’re Getting Married!

Two Saturdays ago, November 21st, Tristan asked me to marry him! I’m still pinching myself as I sit down to write this post 10 days later!! As cliché as it sounds, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world!

Peep the masks- just following those Baltimore City regulations!

So here’s how it all went down:

A few days before the weekend began, Tristan planned a Saturday dinner with our friend who would be joining us from DC. He made reservations at Bookmaker’s Cocktail Club, located on Cross Street in Baltimore where we could grab drinks and food for the evening. I was so excited to get out of the apartment for the night and see one of our friends. We left our apartment around 4:10 pm so we could meet him at the restaurant by 4:30. On our way over, our friend texted Tristan saying he’d be about 15 minutes behind, getting there around 4:45. No problem, Tristan suggested we’d wait for him at the park nearby (Federal Hill).

So up until this point, I had no idea what was going on. It wasn’t until we started walking up to the beautiful, skyline view that I started to think “Wait… is he proposing?? Is this really happening??” And that’s exactly what he did (insert a million smiley-faces)!!

Tristan and I met my junior (his senior)- year of college at Furman University. Although our paths never crossed before (I was in STEM and he was in humanities), we found ourselves both in the course “Philosophy of Foods.” While I had initially signed up for the class to knock-out my last GER requirement, I quickly found it to be my favorite class in more reasons than one! Tristan ended up graduating and we talked on and off until we made it official a week after I graduated the following year.

Tristan and I were long-distance the first year we dated, because I was in Mississippi completing my first master’s degree. The first time I was able to visit him in Baltimore, he took me to this exact spot to see what I believe to be the best view of the city. It was a perfect full-circle moment to return to the same spot 4.5 years later!

The first photo I took looking out from Federal Hill 4.5 years ago!

Not only did he do an amazing job designing the ring, but it also carries a lot of sentiment with it! I feel so blessed to be able to wear such a beautiful piece!

My parents could probably tell you how much I love weddings, bridal gowns, and event planning. I grew up watching every TLC show I could find related to weddings, especially “Say Yes to the Dress” featuring Kleinfelds in NYC. On Fridays after school, I’d turn on the tv to catch up on “Bride Day Friday”- I swear I was a wedding planner in a past life! Needless to say, I’m ecstatic that it’s finally my turn to plan such a special day!

Of course with the pandemic, there’s a lot to discuss. Tristan and I talked about dates briefly, and until there’s a vaccine or a clearer picture to what the future holds, we’ll probably have to wait until 2022 to get married. We’d rather wait to have a wedding where all of our loved ones can attend safely. Obviously, we’d prefer a wedding earlier, so we’ll just keep up with the news and developing research.

Thanks Kim Zaruba for capturing this special moment for us!
