Materials:
- Wax: I used these gold sticks, here.
- Wax Stamp (optional): These stamps are a great way to add personalization to your wax! I bought this “M” stamp, here, for our last name!
- Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks: like this one, here, that will fit the size of wax sticks you purchased.
- Chiffon Ribbon: I used this blue one, here.
- Printable Watercolor Paper: I used this one, here.
- Ruler: I used this rugged-edged ruler, here.
- Hole Punch: like this one, here.
Directions:
1. Create a template for your cards: I made mine on Canva, and fit 6 names per 8.5×11 inch sheet. Each placecard was ~3×3 inches. I used the font Angella White (same as the headers for the seating chart I created, here). You could easily make a template on Microsoft Word, too!
2. Print out your template on printable watercolor paper: I printed on white 80lb weight paper in my inkjet printer. You could also use cardstock, however, I loved the authentic felt finish texture of this watercolor paper. It easily elevated the look our placecards!
3. Use the ruler to create torn edges: The ruler pack I purchased included three 12″ rulers with a combination of zigzag, wave and deckle edges; large on one side, small on the other. Since the watercolor paper is thicker and harder to tear, I used the water pen (included in pack) to pre-moisten the design edge for easy tearing. Next, I held one hand on the ruler and the other on the paper and slowly tore the paper along the ruler’s edge.
I did this until all edges of the placecards were torn to the right size.
4. Hole punch the top middle of the placecard: In order to add the chiffon tie, you’ll need to add a hole to the top middle of each placecard!
5. Cut ribbon and tie: I cut about 6-inches of chiffon ribbon for each placecard. I noticed this ribbon frayed some, so I cleaned up any extra strings. I loved how elegant they were, and they matched my bridesmaid’s dresses: dusty blue (here).
6. Add wax seals to placecard: You can do these two ways: 1. squeeze the wax directly on or 2. pre-make your wax seals and hot glue them on later. I tried both techniques and they each turned out nicely! If you’ve never worked with creating wax seals, I would suggest making them beforehand, then gluing them on later with normal hot glue. I have a tutorial, here, of how I made pre-made wax seals. This allows you to mess up a few times and pick your favorites for the placecards!
Done! You’ve created a beautiful, personalized piece for your wedding and saved money in the process!
