Becks and the Cities

Today we went to Burano- the Venetian Lagoon is known for it’s incredible lace work and colorful homes (making it one of the most vibrantly colored towns in the WORLD). We hopped on the vaporetto and traveled 7 km/ 4 miles to the island. It took about 45 minutes total to arrive. We started our day by going to a glass-blowing facility, which was pretty cool (until they quickly usher you through a shop to buy!). While I didn’t purchase anything, I do think their glass pieces are beautiful. I still have the necklace I got when we visited the area before, in Malta (I was in elementary school then!).

Of course, we had a mini photo shoot when we saw how colorful and attractive the buildings were. Dad didn’t partake in the photo session, but he did buy a lace tablecloth for holiday gatherings. Stylish.

So aside from encouraging gen-z/ millennials to take photos, why is Burano so colorful? It’s said the houses were painted in bright colors and hues so fisherman could find their way home with fog was thick in the lagoon. You can tell that in the light, the colors appear as a pastel color, but as the shadows move, the colors become more vibrant.

Burano isn’t as crowded as Venice, so it’s nice to take a break from the hectic bustle just to stroll around and see something different. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and landmarks to see (peep the leaning bell tower). Although the island isn’t very large, you could easily spend a whole day here!
